Affiliate Website – Honestlyreviewed.co.uk

https://honestlyreviewed.co.uk/

This is my less serious affiliate website, that is not heavily driving people to click on the affiliate links – but more so an honest take on some of my Amazon purchases that could be described a bit tongue-in-cheek. And if someone were to click on the links and make a purchase from Amazon, that would still be appreciated but it is definitely not the sole purpose of this website.

And to stay true to the name of the website and its URL all reviews are done very honestly (in good and bad) creating a slightly odd form of entertainment for some, but still providing highly valuable information to all of the relevant traffic. And that is is what I would like to point out.

The reason why I chose to showcase such a website in my otherwise professional online portfolio is that I want to show that while I’m capable of being very serious and professional; I can also be quite ‘outside the box’ and humorous (or that’s what I’d like to think!). But still be able to deliver the correct message effectively to the target audience – be it in just a slightly out of the ordinary manner.

Humour

While being silly and humorous isn’t suited for all occasions or for all businesses, a little bit of humour can go a long way in delivering an extremely strong and an effective message. The traffic I get to this website spend several minutes on average consuming the content, so in this case it definitely works in keeping the reader engaged and on the page.

And while humour may be a strange thing to highlight in a set of ‘skills’, I’d still like to highlight this and make a case for at least making the office life a bit more fun for colleagues and myself when everything isn’t overly serious (even if the official external communications of the business would not be so humorous). A bit of humour and positive wit can also be very useful (crucial even) in Social Media marketing and not just in actual campaigns, branding etc.

Optimisation

On Google Search Console, more than 90% of the search phrases that the articles on this website rank for can be found on the first page of Google Search results (average position less than 8). This has been achieved by utilising a combination of quick keyword research, and by being able to provide articles that are genuinely helpful for the people who are looking into potentially purchasing the reviewed products.

Content
Marketing

The articles and the ‘slightly different’ way of writing and being honest about the reviewed products also keeps the readers extremely engaged, and the average time spent on the articles is up to 5 minutes per reader depending on the article. This is a great example of how you can utilise the power of content and humour to keep the reader engaged on the page longer, and this will result in better results and drive the organic rankings of the content as well as search engines reward better content.

Photography

All of the imagery used in the articles have been taken by myself with my own camera. Visuals play an extremely important role in conveying any message online, whether it’s just trying to show a particular detail of a product (informational purposes), to making something feel more premium (branding / marketing).

Great photography and imagery plays a crucial role for any website wanting to rank organically, and that is looking to keep the visitors engaged. Imagery that is helpful and eye-catching for the content will also help with the performance of the pages, as most people just skim through long paragraphs of texts, but more often than not, it’s the imagery and photographs that catches their eye.
